Puppycat co began as Puppycat Prints, in the back of my dad's wood shop in South Portland, Maine. I started out screen-printing my hand-crafted designs on old white undershirts donated by my friends' parents. Eventually I got my process down, and began selling fun and colorful dog-themed t-shirts at monthly First Friday Art Walks in Portland. As my business evolved and grew, I began to become more aware of the impact of consumerism--especially the clothing industry--on the environment, and on people. While choosing t-shirt manufacturers with acceptable labor practices was always a top concern of mine, the carbon footprint of the t-shirts was no longer something I could ignore. I now use only recycled materials, most of which are locally sourced.
